Some Finishes...

Finished are the table runners that were made from the 2010 tree skirt I didn't like or finish.  These I don't like much better, but they are finished and available for something. I actually finished two of them in January but didn't get pictures.

The squares were quilted with the walking foot while the area around the tree was done with free motion twirls and swirls.  I liked doing it and it looks pretty good, I think.

I sewed more twirls and swirls on the tree with metallic thread and again had no trouble which is surprising.  I like the way it turned out.

Here are the other two.  They have pointed ends because they were that way on the tree skirt before I took it apart.  I used strips of fabric for the backs and did not like that one bit.  I like the fronts and might actually keep them for myself.

It's important to try and figure out exactly what it is about the finished product that makes me not like it, in order to try and avoid that in the future.  Some things I need to remember:  1. Use smaller squares, nothing bigger than 2 inches, 2.  Avoid pieced backs, 3. Make binding 2.25 inches only  4.  Choose fabrics that are really pretty and coordinate and 5.  Don't begin without a plan.  Avoid the desire to start sewing until you are sure the fabrics and design are right for each other.  I really have to heed #5....

I finished another table runner from 2010 that I had to force myself to finish.  I am still waiting for the air erase marks to erase and then will post a pic.
